Cycle of Images "Beings"

"Beings" is a series of paintings that explores the inner identity of humanity, our emotional states, and the light we hold within. By employing subtle anatomical distortions and deconstructing the classical portrait, the artist crafts a visual narrative about emotions: tenderness, strength, fear, and resilience. Here, presence and psychological truth take precedence over rigid academic outlines.

The central iconographic theme of the series is the heart, viewed not in a physiological way but as a symbolic core of identity, autonomy, and sensitivity. This is a reflective form of painting that does not depend on pre-existing media patterns – each figure is an independent manifestation of the artist's imagination, inviting viewers to discover their own story, memory, and emotional resonance within.

A poignant record of existential suspension and the loss of agency of the subject. The composition explores the psychological boundary between what is internalized and what remains completely outside the autonomous influence of the individual.

2026, Watercolor - 51x41 cm

The study of the process of internal transgression and the sovereign decision to endure. Subtle, diffused light and a deliberately limited, ascetic color palette create a work of rare tension and profound psychological significance.

A work affirming the absolute unity of intellect and emotion. A profound, dichotomy-free study of the nature of human consciousness, presented in a raw, minimalist painting form.

2026, Watercolor - 51x41 cm

The work is dedicated to non-verbal registers of cognition that precede cool logic and analysis. Traces of accumulated experiences become an internal radar, guiding the subject through the chaos of stimuli.

2026, Watercolor - 51x41 cm

Uncompromising study of a person in a state of psychological fracture and loss of control. Conscious anatomical deconstruction reveals what has been repressed, exposing the fragile existential truth – without pretension.

2026, Watercolor - 51x41 cm

A work that serves as a visual, deeply moving record of the experience of somatic and psychological trauma. The expressive deformation of the physiognomy is balanced by a revealed, pulsating heart that creates a record of suffering that is subtle yet permanent.

2026, Watercolor - 51x41 cm

Study of affective extinction and emotional withdrawal of the subject. An extremely economical, minimalist form, a cool rigor of the color palette, and a symbolic depiction of the heart create a powerful space for introspection.

2026, Watercolor - 51x41 cm

Award-winning, international study of triumph understood not as external pathos, but as a state of inner sovereignty, strength, and stoic calm. Light precisely modeling the structure of the face and the harmonious contrast of color temperatures create a vivid icon of resilience.

About the cycle "Beings" by Barbara Puto

Cycle  "Beings" was born from a deep need to study the human condition in a way that radically transcends the boundaries of traditional portrait painting. In my artistic practice, I reject superficial physical resemblance in favor of emotional truth; I replace form with energy, and classical anatomy with the inner space from which feelings arise. The heart, consistently revealed in the structure of the bodies, functions in these works as an autonomous source of inner light – sometimes pulsing quietly in a gesture of withdrawal, and at other times expressively illuminating the entire composition.

In this series, the human body becomes merely a frame or a fragile vessel. The true drama occurs in the layer of light: in its density, direction, and color temperature. By painting "Beings," I attempt to visualize elusive and non-verbal states – moments when a person returns to their deepest essence: in wonder, uncertainty, pain, longing, or in the process of reclaiming dignity. Each figure becomes a map of affects that prevents the viewer from superficial visual consumption, instead forcing them to look deep within themselves.

For the collector, these works possess a unique value – they combine rigorous technical craftsmanship (the subtlety of watercolor, masterful manipulation of light and shadow) with a universal, humanistic message about quiet strength and inalienable sensitivity that gives direction and meaning to our lives.

Iconic, introspection-oriented study of subjectivity, embodying kindness, sensitivity, and the inalienable strength that comes from inner light. The work relinquishes literalness in favor of pure geometry of affect.
