Cycle of Images "Microcosm"

““Mikrokosmos” is an authorial painting cycle that explores the intelligence of the smallest beings – slime molds, which have been creating networks connecting matter for 1.5 billion years. In their quiet movement, I find a metaphor for human presence: delicate and fragile, yet capable of building deep connections that endure beyond time.

The visual inspiration for the entire project came from unique microphotographs by Przemek Kryściak, who documents the world of nature with extraordinary tenderness and precision. Influenced by these frames, a fully autonomous, authorial painting interpretation emerged. It translates the fascinating logic and beauty of biology into the language of pure art, imagination, and human emotions.

The cycle "Microcosm"

"Microcosm" is a long-term, evolving painting project inspired by the fascinating world of slime molds (Myxomycetes). These extraordinary organisms, present on Earth for about 1.5 billion years, possess a rare ability to survive and create extensive structures without a traditional nervous system. Their distributed, networked intelligence and unique "thinking in movement" became my starting point for deep reflection on the contemporary world. I believe that harmony and coexistence in the biosphere can develop organically, bypassing rigid human divisions or artificial hierarchies.
 
In this presented cycle, I abandon cold, purely scientific illustration in favor of posthumanist sensitivity. I view nature as a living and empathetic space of closeness, where every being – regardless of its scale – is a full participant in the process of existence. Slime molds, though microscopic and almost imperceptible in the daily rush, reveal brilliant models of flexibility, cooperation, and conflict-free understanding. These are universal values that we, as humans, constantly seek in our relationships with others.
 
For the collector and art lover, this project has a deeply humanistic dimension. Each canvas is an intimate story about the need for connection, rooting in the world, and finding inner peace. The cycle develops in phases, illustrating my own creative evolution and fluid transitions from meditative tenderness to the dynamic energy of matter.
 

Phase I: Quiet Intelligence (watercolors)
 

Conceptual perspective: This is a stage of attentive, painterly observation of the microcosm as a living network of relationships, flows, and interactions beyond the human scale of narrative. The lightness and unpredictability of the watercolor medium favor contemplation. They emphasize the distributed nature of intelligence in nature – one that coexists and responds to stimuli, rather than dominating or controlling. Movement becomes the fundamental language of life, and the biological network – a model of relationships free from hierarchy.

Conceptual perspective: This stage, in which the microcosm transforms into an active system, introduces physicality, monumentality, and intense painterly gesture through canvas and acrylic. These compositions illustrate the formation of structure, a violent concentration of energy, and processes of absorption, where order emerges from chaos, and the network becomes a tool of influence.
